"Oscillating vibration" & Then THIS

Hey Guys,
After probably 20 or so prints, I've encountered a problem I haven't seen before.
Last night I was printing a round cylinder similar to shown below. After a seemingly uneventful start, I was in the other room and heard my Rostock Max v2 with an unusual sound, sort like it was rapidly moving back and forth, small movements, but rapidly -- similar to when in-filling. At first, I didn't think too much of it and was busy, so I let it run a few minutes before checking on it... only to find it had gotten perhaps 1/3 of the way through the print, then was a tangle mess of string fiber. I tossed it up to an anomaly and re-printed it this morning. A couple of small changes in the design, and it went fine.
Then, this afternoon, I attempted the attached print for a prototype tension puller I'm working on. Ten minutes or so after it started, I once again noticed the sound of rapid, oscillating movements and walked over to find the picture below upon cancelling the print.
I have not idea what is causing this, since I've never seen the printer do this before. The print was going along fine for the first 10 minutes. There's nothing unusual I can see in the Layer views. The print seems to just suddenly go into a seizure!
Any hints would be appreciated.
Dave
