Hey, I'm starting the build of a Rostock Max kit and have a couple of questions / comments

My kit is wood and has the LCD screen and the ONYX build plate

I also noticed (like some other folks) that the laser didn't completely cut through the board for some of the parts. My experiance was very similar to the others as far as the part of the board and part numbers affected. I just thought you guys would want to know.

I have also noticed that my lower plate doesn't have the 4 small slots behind the electronics board. My parts are labled R7 (revision?) so, I'm wondering if I need to vent that area behind the electronics panel or you decided to take that feature out and the video and eDrawing is just older/newer. Just curious unless you think I need to drill some holes to vent that area. I guess I'll find out by how hot things get.

Another note is that my parts stink (as in smell)... My wife has sent me out the garage to leave the wood parts... Not sure if it's the singed edges from the laser cutting or what, but, there is a strong odor coming off of the wood parts... I assume it will get better with time? I didn't notice it at the shop the other day...

Are there pictures / instructions about how you route the wire for the ONYX build plate? What about if I should mount it before the motors and extrusions? It seems like I'd want to put that on as one of the last things... I think the square one you install first since the holes get covered by the ATX power supply. Just curious if the larger round one doesn't have that problem, so I can leave it until later...

My kit is rev 4 so I probably can't help on your parts questions, but if the smell you're referring to is the charred smell from the laser, I would say this:
a) I kind of liked it
b) it does go away with time

You can wipe down the edges with a cloth which might help the smell as well as keep the char from messing up your hands.

Thanks for the info Barnett... I assumed it would get better with time... I personally don't mind it, but... I got voted off the island so to speak...

I did wipe down the edges and that helps a lot with keeping your hands clean (I didn't start doing that right away and it makes a hige difference)...

I have the base assembled now and I just mounted the power supply and the steppers... I noticed that I had to "custom fit" 2 of the 3 steppers because the hole had a burr in it from where the laser starts and stops. I checked all 4 of the steppers to make sure the diameter of the pilot was the same (it was close) and narrowed it down to 2 of the 3 holes... No big deal, just feedback...

Curious as to why nylon screws to hold in the power supply?? I'm sure Steve or John had a reason, just curious what it is...

I've been watching the video and leaving the eDrawing open on my computer as a visual aid... I've also consulted the 84 page assembly guide one of the other users uploaded... Wow, what a great reference...

Nylon screws are probably for safety...anytime you match power...electrical, you want no conductors. Barnett and I have been perplexed with the same issues as you....your not alone....but maybe Barnett posts can help. Search and see if we are wrong...or can help. BTW.....love the smell as well....although it wasn't that prominate.........
