Variable layer height?

Hey guys, is it possible to have different layer heights in one print?
It would be great if straight walls could be printed with less resolution than detailed parts of a print.
I mean, from layer 01 to 08 printed at .3, from 09 to 20 at .15 for example.

I don't know if any slicer can do this.

That's one thing found that it can do.

S3D has the option to change many layer settings including layer height.

Thanks!
Maybe I get a license of S3D, but it's a bit expensive for me right now

It's too expensive for anyone considering that there is no trial version to help you decide
if you like the software or it does what you need it to do.

I will not pay the kind of money they want until I can run a trial.

I don't know anyone who's purchased it that regrets it. It is expensive, but when you compare it to just about any other paid software program, it's pretty reasonable.

They just sent a customer survey out to their customers, and I left them my thoughts on a free trial.

Slic3r also has this functionality.

I realize what you are saying Jim, and I respect it.
Its just the principle behind it. Multi thousand dollar software will often add a short trial but not this guy.
I am sure you see my point also. I would gladly pay for the software if he would release something that is disabled in some way
so that I can see for myself if it would serve my purposes better than the other slicers available.
Jim, hope to see you in late March for the Faire.

http://manual.slic3r.org/expert-mode/va ... yer-height is the manual entry about the function. I usually access it by right-clicking on the part in the plater and choosing Preferences or Settings or whatever it's called. It's still on the second tab of content accessing it that way.

Thanks, when using Slic3r I always use the built in version of Rep Host.
It looks like it is not available there, I will give the stand alone version a try.
