The walls and edges are a bit wobbly--is that because I had the "refinement" (Fusion 360) set on "medium"?

0.5mm layer height is really high unless you have a large diameter nozzle. What size is your nozzle?

If you are using the stock 0.5mm nozzle, I would suggest a layer thickness between 0.2mm and 0.35mm. The general rule of thumb is max layer height = 0.8 * nozzle diameter.

Lower layer height will increase the "squish" between layers which should improve layer to layer bonding.

Is that 80% of the nozzle diameter?

PS- I'm not concerned (too much) with aesthetics. The wobbly walls aren't too big a deal--I'm more concerned with design, functionality, etc., of what the end use will be. Of course, along the way I'd like to dial in the finer aspects of 3D printing, so I DO thank you for suggestions and time spent writing out your opinions!

Yes, 80% of nozzle diameter is the community standard for max layer height.

It isn't all about cosmetics either. It makes a stronger and more dimensionally accurate part.

oh--and what about the FIRST layer height? What do you suggest?

0.3mm first layer

0.5mm Nozzle Settings.
-0.3mm for layers for a course setting
-0.20-0.25mm for standard settings
-0.15-0.17mm for fine
-0.11-0.14 for very fine
-0.09-0.10mm - Good Luck.

Glad the mouse ears worked. I just knew they would!

Also, you can go thinner with the mouse ears. Diameter is fine, but the thickness looks about 2x thicker than it needs to be.

Quick question:
I've used the SD card in the past... just want to be sure:

When I fire up 'puter and printer connection, do all the data I specified (for "Quality" and "Material") transfer immediately to the printer? Therefore, I can simply copy the SLA file from 'puter to SD card, then put the card in printer and begin printing that way?

Printer only accepts gcode files. Which are move here move there etc types of commands.


For those kinds of prints you could be better off with a thicker nozzle.

Nope.

The printer only understands gcode. It is the same fed from the computer line by line or read from the sd card line by line.

Ypu do your settings and say print and the gcode is sent over usb or you export it as a gcode file and load it to the sd card then the printer reads it line by line. It is exactly the same thing.

The settings affect the gcode.

I.e. the commands are move here at this speed extruding this much. Etc...

Ah... I misunderstood your first reply.
So...when I have all set up (as tho' I were to print from the 'puter) I transfer the gcode to the SD card (as I have done) and ALL instructions get transfered over--NOT only the dimensions of the print...
