Tricklaser sells an LED light ring and a top hat light to let you know when the hot end is heating. I wasn't able to find instructions, so I just wanted to double check if anyone has installed these.
I'm in the middle of wiring my hot end and I was planning on joining the pigtails of the top hat to the wires going to the heat resistor. And for the light ring, I was thinking of wiring them into the PEEK fan. Sound good to you guys?

Re: LED Light ring and top hat wiring
That's how I have mine wired. Heat indicator goes to the heat circuit, and the lights are on the fan. Works great.
Re: LED Light ring and top hat wiring
Okay thanks, that's what I thought, but for some reason I was concerted more power would be going to the heater block and overload the LEDs.

Re: LED Light ring and top hat wiring
Nope, the board has resistors to adjust the current and voltage for the LEDs. It's a small enough load that the heating circuit shouldn't even notice.

Re: LED Light ring and top hat wiring
That is correct.
Thanks Jim.
Just to be clear, the heat indicator is wired in parallel with the heating resistors and the polarity does matter. red +, black -
The platform light ring can be powered with same power as the peek fan.
Or, I like to run a separate 12v power from the main PSU and put in a switch so I can turn it off. ( Any yellow & black from PSU is 12v )
I think people do not realize how handy a simple heating indicator is. You will love it.

They are ON SALE (pretty inexpensive) http://www.tricklaser.com/LED-hot-end-h ... ED-HAT.htm

Re: LED Light ring and top hat wiring
Thanks for the clarification guys, I'm a noob at this. I already broke my LED light ring by over tightening it, just to give you an example at how noob I am. I failed to put the nylon standoffs (didn't really know what they were for) and the ring cracked. Hopefully a warning for other noobs out there.
