I think you went crazy with that mylar, but it's definitely eye-catching!

A conversation starter for sure. :)

That's so the government can't monitor your prints, right?

Haha yeah I wish I had the gold Mylar then I would have wrapped every square inch of that thing, but no the Mylar is to protect it from the heat lamps of course, the the tin foil lining of my room is what keeps out the G-men and consequentially the aliens as well

Be careful, improperly installed foil will actually amplify rather than reflect brain waves, increasing their efficacy!

Hey nice build!! But, why do you use two IR lamps? Are you controlling the temperature of the heated chamber to get a desired temp?
With the mylar and the chamber I think it's hot enough. At least my heated chamber reads 42.9ºc while printing and I don't use IR lamps.

What about people like me who have no brain waves?

well the idea is im actually trying to heat the part being built and not so much the entire chamber, and I have two lamps to try and heat evenly across the bed that way its not just from one angle. there's actually an exhaust fan at the top pulling out the hot air and a small blower fan on the bottom pushing cool air into the the insulated compartment, thats what the little grey hose on the side there is. I was concerned about overheating the electronics. I can include some more pictures if your interested, so far its been working pretty well. It still gets pretty hot in there but I haven't actually tried to "control" the temperature. I was looking at doing some temperature control stuff for the case, something like this

ex: http://www.alliedelec.com/bud-industrie ... /70147977/

but when I got to this point I took a step back and asked myself "how much is too much?"
I don't want to pour too much time and money into it without actually using the printer itself.

Its a fun hobby to build and modify and do all that but im afraid of crossing the line into ridiculous territory

It's good that you are cooling the electronics, but don't forget about the stepper motors. The one for the cold end is inside the chamber?
I've read that it would be dangerous tu run them in environments with ambient temperature above 50ºc.

About that, Raymond on his blog says that he measured the interior chamber temperature for the Stratasys FDM 3000, uPrint, and Fortus 250mc at 65C, 88C, and 90C, respectively, in the immediate vicinity of the heat vents.
