Damn, you have a level first layer, tho. Tell us your secrets.

At least you haven't wasted all that filament...

Are you printing the Pentagon?

No magnetic joint in the world will help you when the push-fit connector holding the bowden fails.

It won't stop the spaghetti from being served, but magnetic joints would make the clean up easier. Having stock joints, and considering that it's not that much filament, I'd probably just cut it away and toss it.

Those stock joints pop off piece of cake with a little care.

This is one of those times where traxxas joints would be a PITA.

Yeah I was glad it was my v2 since it's arm connectors are super easy to pop off :)

@bot - hey I struggle with first layers too :) I think the best tips I've got are:
- Give your machine plenty of time to warm the bed. Let it sit at temp for 30 minutes if you can. Maybe I'm crazy but I think this allows it to settle back into flatness.
- Increase first layer thickness
- check that your bowden tube isn't snagging on one of your carriages which might mess up your careful calibration and cause you to almost lose your mind as you spend an hour on the same tower trying to figure out why on earth it keeps changing height every time you measure it. Yeah.
- Be patient and careful with your calibration. A twist in time saves 9m of filament you know.
- Contact the Spirit of Ether and request a "holy injunction" - make sure you only request that by name and nothing else! This will afford you a good 1-2 weeks of demon free printing. I think the 1g of human flesh is a bargain price for such a service.

@ earthbound. Yeah it wasn't really salvagable so I had to throw it out :(

@ Tonkabot. It is a pentagon shape yes, but not a model of the Pentagon, no. Just playing with shapes :) Yeah all that was wasted. I don't have a joiner and it had enough hard kinks that I had to throw it out. I wish I had a recycler.

:)

Awesome advice! haha. I will definitely start letting the heatbed settle for 30 mins prior to printing. I've seen Michael (Hackney) advising such as well. After breaking my first piece of boro (thanks buildtak :P) and switching to a 12" octagonal mirror as a build surface (don't laugh, it seems to work) I'm worried about the temp fluctuations disturbing it. So far, I seem to have been able to achieve the flattest first layers I've ever had, but I attribute that a little to starting to use BuildTak.
