I bet that would run OctoPrint and AstroPrint much better!
If they didn't sell out almost instantly, I'd have bought a couple the other day.

I wonder how this compares to a banana pi or banana pro?

Not sure why you think that...it's comparing apples to oranges. Edison is more of an Arduino competitor and costs much more than the Raspberry Pi.

both could run OctoPrint, just like oranges and apples both have vitamins.
there was perfomance problems with previous Pi's, there isn't ones with Edison.
Price is an argument, but look at possibilities: Intel has Atom processor to drive OctoPrint for example, and it has Quark which could run printer firmware in the future. And compatibitity with Arduino (think about RAMPS here) could not be disadvantage.

I have most of the single board computers in the market at the moment. And they all can have linux installed so you can pretty much install all of the 3d printer servers on all of them.
So the things to consider would be:
Processor
Number of usb ports
Wifi
And IO s if you want to fondle it further.
For this project i just chose the banana pro out of my arsenal. Because it has builtin wifi, it has 2 usb ports (one for the printer and one for the camera) and the processor is good.

I got a Raspberry Pi 2 and so far I have it running Repetier Server and it looks good. I will play with camera in the next day or so!
This thing would go well with Octoprint now...

I just bought a Banana pro, it was a tossup between the two for me but if the raspberry pi can't handle flash photography, I'll grab the other

Just got my shipping notice for my Pi2. Going to setup Octoprint and the new Repetier-Server.

I bought a Raspberry Pi 2 specifically to get OctoPrint running better. I have only gotten the basic Raspbian software installed and I can already tell it's faster. I have high hopes! I may even run the camera this time.

If you are refering to the R Pi reset when hit by a flash problem, it is explained here:

If you just cover the chipscale package with putty or something it will fix it.
