skipping steps in the manual?

Post by jram »

Hello All,
Just a quick question . I started the build a few days ago and I'm loving the process at this point, the manual is really well done! I've ordered dampeners and was expecting them a few days ago. I don't want to install the motors without the dampeners. Basically I'm at the point in which the motors are placed on their mounts. I'm wondering what people would recommend as a next logical step to keep moving forward with the build? I was thinking about doing some of the soldering on the onyx and maybe some Rambo wiring. I just don't want to paint myself into a corner.

Yep you can still do alot of it imo!

I was waiting on my RTV Silicone to arrive, and managed to basically do everything apart from Hotend/Onyx.

Work around it - people have installer the dampers after a finished install, so it can be done :)

I'd also try printing without dampers first and see what you think, it's honestly not that loud, and plus you lose a bit of detail with the dampers!

That's a great point! I think you've just talked me into moving forward without the dampers, I'm so anxious to move forward that I really can't stand to wait!

I installed the dampers 2 days after I built the whole thing, it was a little tricky, but can be short work if you make sure to get a REALLY short screw driver that will fit in the base to get at the screws that mount the motors. And the good news is, if you got the steel and rubber dampers, you only need 2 screws to mount it back to machine! Also, while your waiting, make sure to go and get some 6mm M3 screws for actually mounting the dampers to the motors. The original screws used to mount the motors are too long.
