Adding non-structural elements to the Max.

Hi all.
To begin Hacking my Max, I need to get a few wires from the Rambo up into the top section where an additional microcontroller and assorted goodies will live.
Would it be safe to add new vertical pillars in the middle of the flat sides between y-z and x-z. (Printed non-structural pillars of course)
They'd be mounted on the outside from bottom to the top.

That should be ok right?

Thanks!

That will not cause problems.

However if I really had to bring more wires up top, I would use one of the tricklaser bands. http://www.tricklaser.com/T3-Trick-Tslo ... 3-TRIM.htm

a bit pricey. But they do look nice.

No relation to the company.

and

Holy cow those are awesome! And I would definitely go through the effort of tear-down and re-build to use them.
But I'm actually going to have more than just wire in/on the pillars. I just want to make sure they wouldn't obstruct the effector platform in any way.

Check out the recent enclosure threads. People are attaching massive pieces of acrylic or pc to their printers with no ill effects.

You could partially imitate the design but have a pipe going up instead of a plate.

Unless you install your wires so that they do not interfere with moving parts you should be golden.

This may or may not be insightful to you, but if you installed the layer fan the way the manual says to, then keep in mind that one side of your hotend sticks out farther than the others.

One (and just one) of my binder clips is liable to get pushed away from the platform because of the positioning of the layer fan. So make sure your extra columns would clear that!

Kitecraft, take a peek at the v1 Rostock MAX manual. Towards the end of the manual I provided a scaffold design for running the wiring up the outside of one of the towers.

Thanks. Those little dowel clips were the first 3D printer-specific thing I'd ever designed. They work great. :)
