[Solved] Midprint, loud noise then prints on kilter

Post by jeffhuber »

Trying to diagnose this - Rostock max v2 with e3d v6. This has happened at least 3 or 4 times now.

This print was going just happily - trying out PET+ from madesolid, cool stuff, and then i hear a loud thud noise (not metallic, sounds more like knocking on a wood table) - I look over all all of a sudden it's printing on a kilter / angle. No noticeable collision with the print.

here is an illustration (i have crazy skills in MS paint, i know)

My only theory is that perhaps the stepper motor is going. how could i test this? any other thoughts?

i am a TOTAL noob so please take this as you will... but i had that issue a couple times early on after my build... for me, it was just a buggy repetier install. I reinstalled an older version and it went away... worked with mattercontrol and its never come back either...
thats just me, again im very new.

hmmm did you get this same printing on an angle result? that's very strange... ive also been using the printer for a few months now, and just started in the past week. so i dont think it's the firmware. but thank you for the idea!

Sounds like the hot end umbilical got caught on something and one axis lost some steps as a result.
Could also be arm trouble. Are you using stock arms? Are the u-joint clips inside of the arm ends?

This ^^. I've had the umbilical catch on a Cheapskate before and that's exactly what you end up with.
