As of today (14Nov14) the 2nd edition is "feature complete". All chapters have been updated.

I'd encourage you to add something early in chapter 2 about painting edges of melamine parts. I agree it is not necessary, but if builder wants to do so it is much easier to do so if parts are removed from laser cut panels and edges get painted before removal of masking material.

I really like the addition of the melamine parts identification pics. I'm sure that was a bunch of work, but I think it will be very helpful to future builders.

How about adding a warning about wiring the RAMBo power connector (and its heat output terminals, too in later chapter). I have read several threads where people thought they were doing a good thing by tinning the leads, which usually results in heat damage to the terminals and/or PCB down the road. A simple "Do not tin the leads. The compression terminals will make a poor connection if you do." might be called for.

Thanks. I used a tripod to hold the camera and I taped a square out on my work table in order to make sure each part was framed the same for the photo.

Good point. I've added a big block of bold, italicized and yellow-background text in order to warn about that. I worded it to cover ALL compression terminal wiring. Should be sufficient. If not, I can point to that bit and reply, "What part of 'don't do that!' was unclear?"

On the first page of chapter 6, the captions for the multi-cables need attention. You've got one marked as 24ga and none as 18ga.

Regarding the change from aluminum u-joints to acetal plastic u-joints...

The parts inspection (chapter 2) shows/lists the new acetal parts. When you get to assembling the cheapskates (chapter 8) the "parts needed" lists aluminum, and all assembly pics show aluminum. Probably no need to re-shoot all those pictures, but parts list should be corrected and there or nearby you might mention the material change to explain away the difference in the images.

if you were to have read genes initial post the part that said "As of today (29Oct14) the update covers up to and including chapter 7. Points after that are fuzzy, screwball and otherwise should be avoided at all costs." must have escaped you =)

Yep. Read it and did not retain that part.

Id recommend telling them to use a crescent wrench instead of pliers to hold the hotend, I've ruined the finish on one too many heater blocks doing this...

And no caffeinated beverages, especially flavored coffees, while building.

Flavored coffee... *shudder*

A slip-joint plier is going to give a better grip. A crescent wrench isn't going to provide the "third hand" quality that the plier will as well.

Now that being said, it wouldn't hurt to put some masking tape on the jaws first...

Ive held my Buda and my E3d hotends in a crescent pretty solidly, I can wave it around all I want, and I dont have to apply tension myself. Just speaking from experience

I just uploaded the latest update - Chapters 8 and 9 have been completed. I'm up to 13 checkpoint videos as well.

I am about to pull the trigger on one of these rigs and am very excited about it. One thing that it looks like I will need to order that does not look to be include is some ABS filament. I could not find it in chapter 1 or 2. It might be silly but I would be sad to get to the point of starting my first print and all I have is PLA. Thanks!

It would behoove SeeMeCNC to make things clear and not contradictory. The kit is promoted as "with everything you'll need to build a complete machine". Then there is a list of tools required, and at the bottom of the list it mentions needing the high temp RTV or epoxy. But in order to build the machine, you'll also need crimp ferrules (unless they have begun including them, which would be a stellar idea), thread-locking compound, Kapton tape, and several meters of ABS filament to print a PEEK fan shroud.

To Gene's credit, he lists the need for all of these things (except the ABS) at the front of the manual. I think a big note to order up a spool of ABS if you haven't already belongs on the same page. Other options would be having SeeMeCNC include a 10m starter spool or simply include a premade PEEK fan shroud as some users may only plan to buy/print PLA.

I tend to agree with you on including a PREMADE PEEK fan shroud. This part is a critical part of the printer and should be included.

I tend to agree with you on including a PREMADE PEEK fan shroud. This part is a critical part of the printer and should be included.

I disagree, I feel this makes a good, consistent test print. Having a sample of ABS filament to go along with the kit, enough to print a couple of fan shrouds, I agree with.
