My EEPROM configuration, without my permission, vanished!?

I've been happily printing for a few days now. Using the printer as intended, to design and create parts for my product ideas and designs. Great. Today I made some improvements. I'll report on lessons learned in a few days, but, my EEPROM configuration changed while working on the machine.
I took the filament guide out of the wire sheath. I think that removed some stress on the hot end while printing. I also shortened both, something I've been meaning to do since building the MAX.
Next thing I know, the hot end is 100 mm off the print bed when it should be at 1mm. And no, I didn't make everything too short. Plenty of slack. I looked and discovered my EEPROM configuration settings and print history had vanished.
Did I save my settings in a config file? No.
Has anyone else had an experience like this.
Thanks,
Bill
