Nothing is a match for a good ORION at your side...

Hey there hooligans. This thread is for progress on my custom DL-44.
For those of you "non nerds" out there (everyone tells me they exist but I have a hard time believing that while browsing these forums), the DL-44 is the model of blaster that Han Solo wields at his side in Star Wars.

I realize there have been DL-44 builds out there already, but I decided to make mine from scratch (hence, custom). I am basing the design off the the A New Hope style blaster. The better one, IMO.

The original blaster was based off of a German Broomhandle Mauser pistol. Two reference pictures can be found below (both stolen from Google)...
Original Pistol:

The big man himself with the blaster from the film:

I used multiple Google and Wookiepedia photos as references for this build. I can't source them all. It would take too much time.

I began my build by purchasing an airsoft replica Broomhandle Mauser and stripping out the internal workings to keep it convention safe...

I then designed, printed, and assembled the blaster pieces with an ORION 3D printer from some really awesome cool company called SeeMeCNC...
Blast suppressor and scope rail:

I then designed printed and assembled the scope mount brackets, scope, and a random side greeblie. I have since glued them together, primed and painted the piece...

There are still quite a few parts to design for this build, but considering I'm designing all my parts from scratch with zero CAD training, I'm pretty happy with the results so far.
As I make more progress on this build I will post photos and info!

Thanks for stopping by!

This is just way too cool :)

Learning CAD for the first time can be a lot of fun. All the things in your head that haven't been designed yet can definitely be a good encouragement to hone some CAD skills. ;)

Looks awesome! However, if something were to happen to the scope and you had to print another, I would suggest changing the .stl settings and decreasing the angle size and deviation so that it doesn't look quite so faceted.

I would agree. It could look more round...

I was about the say the same thing as the previous two posts. Polygons make it look like it's from a video game. Make it round!

I have an original C-96 and it is a lot of fun to shoot also. Mine is in 7.62mm however.

It's been quite a while since I've posted my progress, but it's been quite a while since I've made any, lol.

Here's where I'm at currently...

The final part has been printed and glued on, and I've decided that I will in fact be filling in some of the printed lines and gaps before the final paint application.

So although there's much more work to be done, here's the main body fully assembled and ready to start finalizing:

The base pistol was an airsoft gun, and the accessories were a combination of parts I designed in TinkerCad, and parts another Legion member designed in Sold Works.

Isn't the flash suppressor kind of a gunmetal grey and not silver?

Where'd you get the airsoft pistol? (I loooove airsoft!)
