Hello,

I'm curious if anyone else has had a problem where the Rostock Max starts a print, gets a few layers down, and then shuts off the power to the heated bed and the hot end. It's not a fuse because I can reset the printer and then bring everything back up to temperature. The head is not clogged, because I can extrude filament no problem. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Does the whole thing reset when it happens, i.e. do you lose the connection in the host software?
My guess would be a bad PSU, or the movement causing a temporary short, either of which will cause the PSU to temporarily shut down

Nope, the entire machine keeps working. So the power supply can't be the problem. It seems that only the heating elements shut off. It isn't fuses either, because it came back up to temperature after resetting the machine.

Did it happen just once, or is it a recurrent problem ?

If it does happen, does it happen with one STL file, or all, or some ?

Maybe you could have a bad connection in a thermistor.

What temperature does the printer display when you are in that situation ? Does it display the target temp, the cooled down temp, or "def" ?

It's happened a few times now. I tried a different part and the same thing happened again, and I have made a rather fiddly YouTube video to show the result. The bed is entirely cold and I imagine that the hot end is as well. I didn't remember to check the temperature read-out. Something that is interesting is that it took about twice the time and material for this print to fail as it did the print before. Any more ideas?

If the LCD reads DEF for the temperature at the point of the failure, then it's gone into failsafe because it measured a temperature out of the expected range. This is usually a result of a loose wire on the Hotend thermistor, at some point the motion causes a disconnect for just long enough that it reads the open circuit.
But it could be a lose wire on the bed thermistor, or an intermittent short on either.

I did receive that error! I will check into that. Likely, just re-wire the thermistor. Thanks for your insight!
