Perhaps a newly registered member should be allowed a certain number of posts immediately and no more. Like say 2 MAX in the first 2 days.

A new member should be verified by sending them an email to their email address which they would have to respond to.
Most spammers do not give a real email address.
It won't get rid of all spam but it may slow it down. What is happening now is pitiful.

I find nothing humorous about all this spam.

I sure hope someone can get it fixed soon -- the number of posts is ridiculous. One interesting thing is that the stuff in Russian is done with accounts that actually fill in an interest (e.g. Bowling, Football, etc.). Probably some spam-bot that tries to avoid "checks" for those things. Or some real person who's getting paid per post. Either way, it's quite annoying to hardly be able to find the real posts tonight

Require 5 posts and 3 days of membership for a new member to start a thread. Require a CAPTCHA on registration. Consider getting one of the premium spam catcher services that blogs use. Have an active moderation team.

I was in the forum business for awhile and this is how most people solve this problem.

There is a captcha where you enter XX roman numerals, but it obviously is not stopping the
spam, we need to come up with something much stronger.

We do have a captcha question, and yes, we do have a few mods floating around. However, these were not spam bots. If you read any of the posts, they were commenting on you guys' reporting there posts as spam. These are real life people, who have no real life

It's forever a problem, and rather than me wasting time EVERY day approving what is honestly 99% good users, i'd rather spend an hour once a month dealing with an issue as it arises?

That's it I would like to volenteer for furthering my duties as a spam killer.

I've gotten all the spam removed.

John - if this forum has the ability, you should enable a posting rate-limit of 15-20 seconds or so. That would have really slowed down the jackass that wanted everyone to read his "papers".

If it was up to me, I'd set up a Brazen Bull in the middle of a big courtyard, stuff the spammer into it and then force the spammer's family to stoke the fire under the Bull. THAT is how you deter spam.

This is a personal question, so don't feel obligated to answer, but do you golf? And if so, exactly how many clubs have you broken across your thigh after a shank?

Count me in too! I'll help in any way I can to get rid of the spam Can we add a check "If the message is posted in Russian, just delete it ". I'm not intending to offend anyone here that *does* speak Russian, just saying for me at least, I can't read it without Google Translate

I just discovered how the "Foe" option works. I added one of the Spammers that keeps posting stuff to my "Foe" list and all of his/her spam disappeared for me -- YaY! Of course, the topics still show up as having "unread" messages, but I no longer have to scroll past all of the Russian ads

Pasture Pool isn't my thing. At least until they wise up and make it interesting by combining it with Skeet. THEN I'll pay attention.
