Up for auction is a 1982 GMC box truck that I began converting into a mobile machine shop, then lost interest. All equipment except the Walker-Turner band saw runs off of 220 3-phase. The equipment has either been bolted or securely fastened to the floor of the truck and would have to be unbolted to be removed. The truck includes the following:

1 Fortune 1640 lathe (this ran good before being installed on the truck, the foot brake does need some work done to it)
1 1st gen Prototrak vertical mill. (the X-axis motor mount was removed in order to repair it, all pieces that I have for the mill are included)
1 Taft-Pierce surface grinder (this little grinder has ball bearing ways, relatively new spindle bearings and a Parker-Majestic motor)
1 Jakobson 2-1/2 axis Wet Grinder (everything was functional when loaded/ bolted to the truck)
1 Walker-Turner Bandsaw (could use a new blade, runs off 110 single phase)

What you see in the photos is what you get. The truck had new tires put on about 2 years ago and runs, drives, turns, and stops. It also has current Ohio tags, Insurance and title. It has never been weighed since the addition of the equipment so your guess is as good as mine. The equipment will need to either be wired to a phase converter (these can be bought fairly cheap on ebay) or directly to a 3 phase connection for it to work.

This is a No Reserve Auction with a non-refundable $500 deposit (if it goes that high) paid within 48 hours of the auctions end or it will be re-listed. Final payment must be made in cash or certified funds before truck leaves the property. The buyer is responsible for making all arrangements to pick up/ship the truck/equipment and it must be removed with 2 weeks of the auctions end or again it will be re-listed.

The Dayton area isn't that far away from South Bend... Plus I have a brother in Cinci that's closer...

Off the official Ebay record, any flaws or conditions that would scare somebody off besides what you've mentioned? I'm curious about your strong caution to see the truck in person.

Not really, i just wanted to be sure nobody would try and talk me down in price after they bid on it and win the auction. (im sure they will anyway). The truck i was building for myself to keep me busy after i closed my own shop. What can i say, Tool and Die makers are all kinda funny in the head and well don't get me started on Master Tool and Die Makers, we're the reason all rookie toolmakers go funny in the head before they become actual toolmakers. hehe. Now Moldmakers and Engineers, um yea not going there, haha.

The best thing i could tell you is what i would do to finish the truck and hope that helps. All the equipment needs oiled up and lightly stoned to get the rust off the ways from it sitting for so long (2 years). That's it for the bandsaw and grinders.

The lathe was made by Victor and sold under the name "Fortune" it chases pretty threads and even does metric threading. We paid about 10k for a used smaller victor lathe in the shop that i work in now. What the lathe does need is its foot brake worked on, if you don't mind the lathe coasting to a stop then it will work fine.

The prototrak mill is an alliant mill retro fitted with prototrak controls (I had 2 identical mills and kept the one with better ways when i closed my shop). The head needs work done (belts replaced) and some work done to the quill handle. Also the z axis travel dial is missing on quill. The bracket on the x axis motor had been cracked for awhile but i didn't realize how bad it was until i took it off to repair it, it basically needs welded back together and put back on the mill.

As for the box truck its self, its geared really low top speed is 55. The brakes need some work done (i just dont like the way they feel) but it stops just fine. The motor could use a tune up and the exhaust needs re attached, its kinda loud, hehe. The truck was broken into while was on vacation last year and i can only guess they were trying to steal it because they tore up the ignition switch and the dash but still couldn't get it started. (if i left the battery connected, the truck would prolly be long gone).

I would feel pretty confident about driving the truck up to southbend, i just wouldn't drive it cross-country. It is a gas hog and with the price of gas don't expect the drive to be cheap.

I did see a couple tow-behind 3 phase generators for sale on ebay and cragslist about a year ago and was seriously contemplating buying one and pulling it behind it to power the equipment.

As far as why im selling it, i got a 3d printer this summer and a 79 vette about 3 weeks ago and i really want headers and side pipes for the vette. So im pretty much selling it for the same reason i built it (because i can, lol) and side pipes on the vette would be even louder than the truck and really piss off my neighbors. lmao

Yea the sale went well i got $3500 for it after Ebay's cut and there was Never a reserve. I probably could have gotten more if i would have separated it, but i really didn't feel like separating it at the time. As for the Vette it got a whole bunch of goodies. Here is a pic.
