Changing Filament

What's the best practice for changing out filament?
I tend to take the tube off at the extruder, feed out some line, heat the head up, snip and pull.
I'm asking so I can complete the basic FAQ...

I just retract 700mm of filament at about 2000mm/min
I usually cut off the deformed filament. I try to avoid removing the quick release fittings, because I've destroyed one.
But what ever works is probably fine

After a print has finished, I spin the extruder backwards by hand to pull the filament out of the hot-end while it's still hot. Then I disconnect the tube from the extruder and pull the filament through. Then you can cut it on either side of the extruder and feed the last inch or so through.
This wastes about a foot of good filament, but you're not really supposed to feed it through twice anyway because of how it might be squished an stretched.
