...and if you're really lucky, I'll have the docs done by the time they start shipping.

Well there's always the "JJ changed something" factor.
I DID pull off a neat trick (well for me anyway) - the docs will now feature a 1:1 scaled & dimensioned hardware chart so there will be no doubt as to what size & type of fastener is required for a step. You can print the page out and actually measure the drawing on paper and it'll match what your ruler says.

That's cool and useful!

It's way more fun putting things together without a manual anyway.

Eric, True fun can also come from assembling them with the wrong manual, with a poorly translated one, or making someone else do it with those same constraints. One of my eternal favorites is a chinese laser cutter. Want to guess what 'Install Soft Dog' means in the context of getting it working?

I'm on the list also. Looking forward to joining the delta family. I was refreshing the we site waiting for orders go to live.

SeeMeCNC was good enough to retro-actively apply John's discount code after he posted it.

Hmmmm discount code? Do tell-
I was under the impression the underside of the melamine is porous and was thinking about applying spar varnish. Would someone please comment on that?
The only thing I am lot looking forward to is Arduino- I have been spoiled running Smothieware.
Gene- love the idea of the scale hardware document!
Cheers!!

well, the melamine is sealed except for the edges, which can be easily painted... I only touched a spray-can 2-3 times prior to the Rostockv2 and was able to get a good looking job...
The electronics are fairly easy to upgrade.... I wish they would have upgraded to 32bit electronics, have been able to keep the price at 999 despite adding quite a few features so that's commendable... when I first saw $1899 for the v3 I thought that was crazy... then I realized it was fully assembled and with the pi.

If they are using the same material as the V2, both sides are covered with melamine. Just the edges are exposed, and they soak up paint like a sponge.

I've used Killz Primer in the past to seal the edges. Other folks have used 1/4" wide, colored pinstriping tape. YMMV.
Here's the hardware chart:

Thanks for the tips on the melamine guys!!!! I will apply the colorless spar varnish on a test piece and see if there are any ill effects.
Cheers!!!!
