Hello folks.
Anyone using the FINE nozzel hot end for the Rostock Max?
I'm having trouble getting material out of it.
Temp at 240, bed 55, once the material is in the hot end, not much comes out just an inch or so at the beginning after extruding about 35mm
During my test print nothing coming out at all even though Extruder is pushing, it's not moving the material.
When I back it up out of the hot end, extruder pushes it until it seems to get stuck in the hot end.
In slicer I set up as per the manual except
Filament 1.79mm after measuring
Nozzel diamater: 0.368mm
Any specific settings or info for the fine hot ends?
thank you in advance!
A

Re: Fine Hot end Rostock Max settings?
Have you tried disconnecting the Bowden tube from the extruder and manually pushing the filament?
I usually set my temperature based on that, it's much easier to get a feel for it.
FWIW I think even with Marlin the thermistor is reading high, I keep meaning to take the 1.75mm PTFE tube out of the Hotend and putting a thermocouple into the end of the Hotend to confirm.
Interestingly I just insulated my heater block with some silicone tape, and I think the thermistor is reading closer to correct, in that I can print at lower set temperatures.

Hey Yes I just tried that... it goes through pretty easily, maybe it's the extruder not grabbing and pushing it well.
looks like it's the extruder I need to mess with I'm guessing
thank you!

Re: Fine Hot end Rostock Max settings?
I have the .5mm nozzle and the biggest issue for me was getting the extruder tension just right. If it's too tight it will deform the plastic and cause it to jam up, too loose and it will slip.
I can imagine with the fine tipped nozzle the extruder tension is even more important.

The trick to getting the right tension is to tighten the adjustment screws to the point where you can't stop the filament from feeding by gripping the filament with your thumb & index finger. If you find you can't stop it right off, back it off until you CAN stop it and then give the screws a quarter turn each until you can't. Make sure you tighten both evenly!

Re: Fine Hot end Rostock Max settings?
I took my extruder apart because I was having all sorts of issues after my last filament change.
The bolt on the idler was loose, so turning the gears wasn't turning the roller, I'm pretty sure it was tight at some point and worked loose, but it's worth checking everything is working as intended.

The Cheapskates were too loose causing the head to move when I touched it so I fixed that but the only thing wrong now is plastic is not coming out enough.
Also I took the Extruder apart and redid it and it's perfect now, plastic extruding even through the .368mm nozzle.
I reversed a couple gears and the Knurled pieces and they grip perfectly now. I suggest anyone with flow problems to redo the extruder.
Printing Cube now!
thanks everyone
