Background: I colossally f-d up (see my posts in the manual feedback thread) and cut my bottom wires too short. Short enough that the rambo board is kinda wedged over the power supply. Which I'm imagining is a huge fire hazard.

So now I need to splice more length into almost all the wires coming out the bottom of the towers. And I'm new at this.

Q: Should I use western union splice http://download.seemecnc.com/rostockmax ... dition.pdf pg96? Big glob of solder on it, then shrinkwrap or kapton on top?

I was taught to use the western union splice when lengthening wires and yes I would first Lightly tin the wires than just a touch more solder after trimming the excess from the splice don't glob it on... oh yes slip on a piece of shrink tube first... I am sure that no one on this board has ever made a splice and forgotten to add the shrink tubing first....

Personally, I'd get new wires and avoid an unnecessary splice....

If I were you, I would turn this into a chance to make little extensions with (latching) connectors, so that should you decide to explore the capabilities of the Duet or Smoothieboard, you could easily. Just buy a pile of crimp terminals and shells, making sure they are matched to the application at hand. If you don't do that, yeah WU if you don't want to replace the wiring outright.
