Hi, new poster here from Austin TX. I'm about 90% through with a build of a Rostock Max V2 and have a couple of questions. My apologies if these are covered in the manual or elsewhere but I've read through many times and can't find either one mentioned.

My first question relates to the orientation of the Ball Joint Platform. This isn’t symmetrical as one of the three sides has a larger tab with a molded in channel. What's this for and is there any preference as to which way it should face? Here's the side that's different.

Secondly, I have three parts left over! Can anyone tell me what these are for and where I should have installed them?

As there are three of them, I assume they should be on the effector platform or arms somewhere, or maybe the motors. I'm sure this is me being dumb, but I just can't find them in the manual or parts list. Probably staring me in the face somewhere...

Section 12 shows the ball arms and all parts so that you can assemble correctly.

Thanks for the quick response. No, I'm afraid not. Neither of the specific questions I asked are mentioned in section 12 of the current manual. Or, if they are, I just can't find them!

I took a look at my build and noticed two things - first, and more pertinent to your issue, mine does not have a tab that big. It looks like it is a fault of the injection molding for the part. I am thinking you could ignore it and be fine, or to be safe trim off any offending part that may cause it to be off. Secondly, I noticed that my effector plate is installed upside down Point being, it still works great and I have fantastic prints despite that. Though maybe I should fix it at some point As for that other part...I have no clue, I've never seen it and definitely did not use it while building mine. Send a quick mail to Seemecnc and they will be able to tell pretty quickly I'm sure. They have excellent customer service. It looks like just a mistake though. Congrats on your build!

It looks like it might be for installing the carbon fiber arms from TrickLaser, the rod those arms mount onto could be clamped in the channel? Might have been accidentally included.

Many thanks for the responses and encouragement! It certainly seems like those three parts are surplus to requirements. I'll not worry about them if nobody recognizes them.

As to the asymmetry of the ball joint platform My photo doesn't show it very well. Here's the one from the manual. The side outlined in red is much larger than the other two sides and has a channel in it. I just wondered what this was for and if there was a recommended orientation?

This was for a mechanical flip-down arm probe. The tiny arm was going to be molded plastic with copper foil tape stuck to it. This worked, but was not durable enough. So the little channel is not used for anything. You'll also see this channel in the platform on the Eris. I designed the Eris without adjustment screws. The probe is how you level, horz radius, and z height the printer.

The acceleromter probe is ***AWESOME***. And very close to being done. I'm sitting at my desk right now working on the final injection molded parts for the Eris fan ducting.

Those mysterious black clips are from the U-joint version of the IM carriages. They are indeed surplus to requirements, having been replaced with a better version. It's likely that they include them in the carriage hardware pack, as they would be needed if the carriages were shipped out alone to someone not also upgrading the arms.

The accelerometer sensing looks very interesting. My 'other' 3D printer is a Lulzbot Mini and I must admit I do like the auto calibration... I wanted a larger build area and was intrigued by the delta format so I'm really looking forward to getting my Rostock running. With any luck I'll be calibrating and running my first part tomorrow.


PS - Only one minor issue during the build. This was the same problem with short screws on the Onyx bed fitting that others have reported. I wasn't able to get more than about two threads engaged which I wasn't happy with. Replaced the 3/4" screws with 1" and all is fine.

@geneb - great job on the manual. Thanks for all that work, I see a new edition came out only two days ago.

You're quite welcome. It was only a tiny correction though - I'd used "white & black" in a spot that should have been "white & red".

Perhaps you should move to Indiana, Washington State is too far away. (I smacked myself on the back of my head!)
