Greetings from Aarau, Switzerland

Post by Highcooley »

Hi everybody

I just finished my Rostock Max and wanted to say hello!

My background is electronics engineer with experience in both hard- and software. I already built a Sumpod, with which I never was really satisfied (mayor design flaws and inconveniences).

Currently, Rostock's motors and cheapskates are moving properly, everything is leveled and the correct extruder steps/mm are evaluated. Now, I just got three things to solve:
1) due to probably too tight sitting joints, the carriage is jerking during movements in the X direction. I haven't figured out, where to start searching without disassembling the whole carriage and maybe wearing out parts too much in the process. Somehow, the fact that it only affects movement in the X direction should give a hint, which joints to check first, but I don't get it at the moment.
2) Ultimachine white PLA is giving me a hard time, not constantly being extruded and even oozing out between the heating aluminium part and the nozzle. I already had the same Situation with the sumpod and am still not sure, if the temperature range between 185°C and 200°C is fine.
3) PLA sticks too much on the stickralon bed and due to similar temperature expansion does not pop off when cooling down. As soon as I get my hands on an Onyx bed, I'll go for an custom cut borosilicate glass. Until then, I need a cheep and good solution. Dunno if blue tape on heated stickralon works.

Any suggestions on how to solve the three issues are very welcome.

Greetings
Andy

highcooley, welcome! Have you checked the teflon insulator in the hotend? It shouldn't be leaking out anywhere?
