Is this normal? When I extrude some filament through my brand new v6 hotend and measure it with some mitutoyo calipers, I am getting a reading of .50mm. I set my nozzle size to .4mm and have noticed some problems (layering looks like lincoln logs rather than bonded ABS in the XY plane).
Thoughts?

It isn't unusual for extruded material to swell when it comes out of the nozzle. What confuses me is you saying "I set my nozzle size", do you mean that is the size nozzle you installed or the size you set in the software?ergoego wrote:Is this normal? Both - I installed an e3d v6 (which has a .4mm nozzle orifice), and then changed my EEPROM extruder nozzle setting to .4mm as well.

The phenomenon is called "die swell". It's normal.

And extrusion rate and temperature can both affect it. To get 100% reproducible parts on my fly fishing reels, I print all parts at the same speed and temp.
