I tried the Astrosyn dampers and they seem to let the motors wiggle around, I think it negatively affected prints on fast changes of direction and sharp corners. They are a bit quieter than cork. I took them off any put on cork ones.
Anyone else noticed the Astrosyn flexing a bit?

One thing about the cork dampers is to make sure you use cork or rubber washers under the screw heads (with a metal washer also) else the screw heads against the frame transmit some sound also. Makes a big difference!
Drilling out the motor mounting holes just a bit so the sides of screws don't touch wood frame helps also.

Mine don't move, but I have something like the astrosyn dampers than came off some Japanese steppers I aquired, so maybe the rubber is stiffer. If anything I think the reduced vibration improved the print quality, though any print quality improvement is marginal.

FWIW, I've gotten a sample of another brand of damper and so far it looks a tad stiffer than the astrosyn ones. It's gonna take me a while to get any though. Maybe I should sell cork as well


And the only traitorous thoughts you should be having are thinking of not buying a second delta!

I think the main thing to worry about with dampers is a lack of rigidity. It's hard to dampen vibrations and maintain rigid contact. I didn't notice a difference in print quality when I put my rough cork dampers on, but I was concerned that they would creep over time or bend during accelerations.

As it turns out, most of the force on the stepper shaft is constant from the belt tension. Direction changes don't affect it very much.

I installed the astrosyn dampers on day one with my MAX V2. I guess I can not comment about how it might print without them, but I can say that currently my prints are all looking GREAT and I do not see any issue in areas of fast movement prints. I do know that it does make the MAX a much easier printer to keep going 24/7 in a house. Ours lives in the living room as the reef tank in my office does not play well with Nylons and such. We can print something and watch TV without any issues. For me they are very much worth the money.

I did approximately that;
The astrosyns looked as if they might allow flex/wobble and I was in any case too impatient to wait for them, I wanted to get on with the build.
I bought the cheap foam rubber gaskets and thought there was little point in isolating just the motor faces from the melamine if the screws passed the vibration to the other side.
I used hardware store 1/8 inch grommets and stainless washers, had to use longer screws - 15mm vs the 10mm standard kit screws IIRC.
Quiet enough, though I haven't been in a room with any other running V2 Max.
I "thought about" enlarging the screw holes and sleeving the screws with something like heat shrink tubing and leaving that unshrunk.
I didn't do that, impatience won another battle.

Astrosyns rocked up yesterday, thanks very much Astroboy!

I've installed the tower ones and will leave the extra one I got for the extruder for now. Unfortunately have to go workies now so won't get a chance to play with it until I get home. Today is going to be a long day. I've also got the thermocouple mounted to my spare head over the weekend, and hopefully will get the adapter PCB made up for it soon and ready to go.

What a difference! I'm not going to be running it through the night but I reckon I could work with this thing going in the same room, not like before.

Hint: on the ez-struder that came with the V1 RMax (dunno about Orions or V2s) the setup probably isn't going to work to support an Astrosyn. I gave up on mine after rounding the grub-screw trying to move the hobbed spool but don't think it would have worked even if I had continued.
