After 24hs I attempted to remove the molded part but it stuck so damn well to the mold.
It really needs some sort of release agent that can work with the silicone I'm using (Permatex ultra copper rtv).

Any ideas of a home made or cheap solution? Maybe oil or vaseline?
Homemade? Vaseline and Naptha (For a thinner, more self leveling consistency).

Cheap? I'd suggest the Smooth-on Universal mold release. it's 13.30$ US online. Of course, that may expand a lot after shipping/duties. But it's a more consistent product, and far easier to apply (Spray on). I also suggest a different high-temp silicone, as the Permatex copper was chosen for a relatively high heat conductivity. Perhaps a tin-cure silicone, such as the Smooth-on Mold-max (Or their Poyo putty), as they are able to stand up to low-temperature metal casting. I don't work for them, but they help us out with material selection and application engineering, for wargaming terrain, just as full disclosure.

Thanks for your input, but I don't even search for products internationally anymore, here we have some heavy customs restrictions. Only 2 purchases per year and it doesn't even get delivered to your home. You must go to the main postal office and wait in line for 3 hours aprox. So I must REALLY need something to ask a friend to buy it for me :P

I will keep trying to find a proper 2 component silicone for this project, but at the moment it's being a real challenge.

Here is a quick photo of my silicone paint job. I did a test on a spare chunk of aluminum first, and was able to easily remove it after it cured. So I felt comfortable using this on my hotend since I could change my mind at any time.

Thanks for the picture and your paint job looks good, please let us know of any future problems like it falls apart etc.

Alright... I think I nailed it :D

The removal from the main mold was a success. A sprayable (?) release agent was used and parts were given an acetone bath.
As it's not a 2 component silicone, just to be safe, I'm going to let it dry another 20 hours.

The part came out with some scars, so in the next test more permatex will be used.

Once I'm happy with the mold, it will be uploaded to thingiverse.

Looks nice! I can't wait to see it fixed to the hot end.
My permatex paint job is still holding up. I also ran a PID autotune after the silicone was applied, and found my new values to be quite a bit different than the old values.
I've almost got my fan mounts good enough for sharing. Once I adjust for more clearance, I'll be uploading the design to anyone else who happens to be running the MAX platform.

Thanks ramai ^^ Here it is installed. I couldn't wait 20 more hours, luckily it came out just fine.

Now I kinda like the scars, so no more casting, it's going to stay as it is.

I will follow your lead and run a pid auto-tune and then print something with a lot of airflow.
Let's hope there is no drop of temperature.

Well, I won't bother your thread with more pics. The whole process will be detailed in my (almost never updated) build log :P

Wow it looks amazing! Much cleaner than my crappy paint job. I think I might have to do this.

Thanks daddy (that felt so weird), but I managed to get some from work.
We make injection molded soles and the guy using the machine gave me a spray that worked beautifully.
It's brand free so I can't tell what's inside of it.

Cancer. Cancer is what is inside it!

Okay, I finally feel like the design is sharable. Let me know if it works nicely for you.
