Printer guy from Colorado Springs

Post by Merfman »

Hello everyone! I'm Merf and live in Colorado Springs. Got involved a few years ago with 3D printing by building a Hadron Ordbot. After
getting it up and running, I bought a Taz4 that I use for various projects at home. I recently changed jobs to a more 3D printer friendly facility
and have a Taz1 and Taz5 at my disposal here. We recently bought 3 Rostock Max V2's (DIY version) and that's why I'm here!

Looking forward to learning as much as possible about the Rostock!

Hey Merf, welcome to the forum! It sounds like you'll fit in nicely.

I think you'll find that the manual has everything that a mechanically inclined person would want. The build is a tad tedious, but after you get the first one together and know what all the pieces are, the second and third ones will be a piece of cake.
What kind of business are you in that's so 3D inclined? I'm jealous (although, I've been printing for work, too).

It sound like you're into all of the hobbies that pique my interest. Any 'showcase' projects on instructables or wevolver to share? You'll have to keep us in the loop on your builds and related projects!

Thanks Jim!

We've gotten the printers assembled and 2 of them are running at this time. Have to take some time to get them dialed in but the initial
results are pretty impressive. One of the printers suffered a display failure during calibration and it's currently awaiting replacement.

We use the 3D printers for quick prototyping before sending units to our machine shop. The name of our business is Scientific Applications
and Research Associates. The website can tell you more about the business than I can... ;) I've only been here for a little over a year after
spending 35 years in the IC industry as a technician, designer and finally IC mask designer. That business has changed so much in 35 years
it's hard to describe and it was making me a little crazy.

I don't have anything really cool to show. Most of the stuff I've done from home is custom, one-off stuff for my motorcycles like GPS antenna
mounts and master cylinder guards. The hard part (as I'm sure you know) of this stuff is in the design! I also design and make a few little
widgets for my wife's quilting friend but nothing has gone viral. ;)

Hey Merfman, if you want to make a LOT of old guys happy, figure out how to start producing parts originally made by MOS/CSG (Commodore Semiconductor Group). There's a PILE to be made if you can craft new, cycle-accurate SID, VIC-II and TED chips. :D :D
