Crashing Z axis

Post by redtank »

Hello,
I've experienced two Z axis crashes in the last week, I'm guessing I have some electrical issue, not sure. I've also upgrade to the latest firmware. So when I calibrate Z height I follow this procedure using the lcd panel control:
Calibrate Z height
Home axis
Jog hot end down to hot plate and use piece of notebook paper to set height (paper slipping between hot end and glass)
Set new Z = 0.00
Store to EEPROM
home axis

Then I may or may not have a crash...

I've been using and calibrating my Max since Feb of this year, I don't know what might cause this.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Cris

What your doing is correct, they only thing I will add is sometimes on my system it "hiccups" (technical term) and it doesn't take the setting and I have to do it again.

I usually do a double check manually using the front panel knob to make sure it's set.
And I always write down my z number height after calibration.

thank you for answering:
I think the same thing, a fluke. I'm being extra careful when starting the first print after doing a Z axis reset, life goes on...
