Magnetic bearing and the Kraken

Post by Ziggey »

Ok so learning time!!(For ME)

So as I read through upgrade after upgrade I wonder what the advantages are of these parts. So to start things off, what is the advantage of the magnetic bearings?? Next the Kraken!! I would suppose that this is probably a hassle and a half getting installed, but what are the peoples thoughts on this 4 head mount?? Where do you begin with that??

Thanks for any schooling,

If ypu are the tinkerer type the upgrades seem irresistible. However first i would recommend at least 1 week of print time.

Upgrades for an upgrades sake can leave your printer offline for days eve weeks.

Are you not happy with your current setup? What do you hope to achieve? Are the questions you should ask yourself. In stock form the printer is pretty good in my opinion.

I have had the printer for a year now and although i have fiddled with it ( the only upgrade that i have at the moment is a pei sheet (highly recommend ) and a 24v power supply. I have had a led light ring but it failed, lost some of the led's so i removed it.

Just like you i also fancy magnetic arms, carbon fiber arms etc... but cannot justify them just yet as i am getting prints that are good for me.

Why do you want 4 extruders? What do you hope to achieve? Print 4 different colors? Print 4 different materials? Try the 4 different materials individually and the upgrade from there. No point in having to deal with the calibration of a quad nozzle AND trying to optimize a new material in my opinion.

then again, if it tickles your fancy, go for it...
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

Well I'm not unhappy with my machine stock as it is. I'm just trying to understand what the benefits of some of these upgrades are. I don't plan on doing the magnetic rollers yet, but it is good to know why people upgrade the parts. If it creates a smoother print, or something like that why not, but if its just a personal preferenc that is also something I would like to know.

The reason I got my print is because I wanted to start printing bike stand plates for my business. I also have a connection through my father with his job, so I will be able to print small measuring parts for his company. For that I would like to put my business name on the parts. I know could go into matter control and sink the lettering down, then print out the lettering and glue them on but that would require me to change tips so I can get a better print on small writing and change the filament vs just getting it all done in one. I would want the 4 not the 2 because my fathers business has a lot of color coordinated stuff and I could like to be able to customize the bike plates a wee bit easier and not have to change the color all the time. That's why Im curious about the quad. I know it would be a lot of hassle getting it set up, but I believe that it would be well worth my time in the end.

If you're looking into multi extrusion I'd probably go with the Diamond. Its a 3 in one out system, and it should be less finicky than the Kraken to get running.
