Extruder Options

Post by staticbunny »

I've recently started printing ninjaflex and while it's working pretty slow I feel like the results aren't consistent enough for me. Even the variation of how smooth the filament is affects the print. I've tried a few different extruder types that keep the filament from bunching up but I'm wondering if anyone has tried going direct and mounting the extruder on the hotend. The closest I've seen is mounting the extruder on the tricklaser carbon fiber arms, which i might do.

Tried this - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:488678 and it's the only one the prints ninjaflex so far but couldn't get enough grip on ABS.
Tried this - http://repables.com/r/446/ and surprisingly it didn't work, but I'm going to try with a different ninjaflex color. Red and black seem a lot more matte and yellow and whit are a lot smoother.

Also constantly having to take apart my extruder is a pain in the ass. So i'm thinking about setting up duel extruders or making the one i have hot-swappable. That also helps if the extruder rotation is reversed i can just plug in the wires reversed for my testing.

So if anyone can suggest some extruder for my to check out i would appreciate it. Specifically for ninjaflex.

What problem did you have with the EZflexstruder?

I couldn't get it to extrude consistently for ninjaflex. I'm going to try again with the tubing all the way to the gear since i didn't do that last time.

Yup i haven't tried that but I'm currently using the model created by singh336 when that one wouldn't work for him. It works the best so far with ninjaflex but weirdly enough it wouldn't work with ABS. I have a few things I'm going to try such as the air extruder mixed with an updated version singh336's mod our mounting on the control arms. Just wondering what other people have found successful with ninjaflex and different extruders.

Its very crucial for the tubing to go from the end of the drive gear to the hotend. Thats probably why you had issues, it would buckle in the area where the tube wasn't.

yeah i just put it back with the tube all the way to the gear and its pushing it out fast. thanks! I also put a tiny bit of sunflower oil on the first foot of filament andI could tell that made feeding by hand a bit easier.

So it looks like i can't print any faster than 15mm/s bleh. I'm hoping moving the extruder closer to the hot end will let me speed things up. The ezflextruder is pretty awesome for grip and just pure simplicity in putting it together.
