I'm scheming about building a machine with 400 step motors on Smoothie. I know that several others have already gone this way. What motors have you had good or bad luck with?
I was banking on the custom spec BerryBot motors to fit the bill, but while Werner says they're extremely quiet, they're 1.8 deg motors.
Which 0.9 degree steppers are you using?

Re: Which 0.9 degree steppers are you using?
I have never had a problem with a Vexta motor before (also known as Oriental motors). I have used a number of their steppers in various styles and sizes ,including 0.9 degree.
Probably cheapest to find some used ones, I think new they are pretty spendy in low qty. ($39 for a PKP243MD06A-L. http://catalog.orientalmotor.com/config ... figurator?)
Actually they have 5-phase steppers that do .36 degrees per step for $73. But you can't drive those with a standard driver. If I ever build a bigger printer from scratch, I am tempted to use them.

Looked at the "usual" places like Adafruit, Inventables, Ultimachine, RepRap Discount, etc... I really only found motors at SparkFun without having to order them from a more industrial supplier.
