MAX V2 mattercontrol sudden air-doodling

Post by Tonkabot »

I printed a test object after just switching back to ABS from PLA this weekend.
It had lots of strings and seems like it doesn't fill in very well.

I made some changes in MC material settings to try to improve the strings, and ran it again.

Something went horribly wrong, as the head slowly drops to about a foot above the glass and starts air-doodling.
I tried switching back to the original ABS settings file, and it made no difference, it still air doodles. Tried 3-4 times, still air-doodles.

I don't know what went wrong. It also acts as if it is trying to go 'up' from the home position. However the 'home' button on the MC control panel looks like it works correctly.

I am new to mattercontrol, and I can try going back to repeatire and see if that helps, but I think something else is going on here.

Sounds to me like the printer settings in Matter Control printer config are at default (height of 100mm). Your Max's Z travel (around 390+) needs to be in there.

The Z- height numbers are 390 something. It was working and the next print changed. I tried a print from repeatier, and it did the same thing.

But I also get the feeling that the Z is completely wrong. like maybe in the EEPROM on the rambo or something. I'll try to recal my Z in the RAMBO and see what happens.

Oh, MatterControl just wanted to update itself to 1.2.1, which it did, and then NET 4.5 took a lot longer to install.

could I have loaded a slice setting file from an Orion or something?

The one time I used mattercontrol it somehow managed to clobber my EPROM settings, which resulted in this exact behavior. Had to reconfigure the whole printer.

According to the EEPROM settings my Z max length is 234.66 I am thinking that should be that 394.75 number or whatever it is.

Do you think all my EEPROM settings are gone, or just this? from the look of it the other values seem okay, but there could easily be a few more in there that changed.

Resetting my Z in the RAMBO seemed to fix it.
