Repetier 0.92 worth it?
Is it worth it to try installing 0.92 of the firmware onto the RMv2? Are there custom enhancements in the SeeMeCNC github or can I use the standard Repetier source code with the proper configuration settings?
Re: Repetier 0.92 worth it?
What reason do you have to want to install .92?

I use my own branch of the firmware rather than the SeeMe one and my general rule on firmware, is if it works don't touch it unless there is some major feature you want access to. Upgrading is as likely to break something as it is to fix it, unless you have a specific issue you know to be fixed in the latest code.
The last update I did from the main repetier branch was to get a fix for dual extruders which it turned out didn't actually fix the issue I was having.
I will also say that almost without fail when I update, the configuration.h file has been rearranged or additional sections added which invariably break my configuration and require me to spend time debugging what is happening.

I just wondered if it was worth it for any new features and such. I reinstall new versions of phone software about every couple of weeks, so I'm one of those "cutting edge, even if it cuts you" types, although with my 3D printer it would be nice if it "just worked".geneb wrote:What reason do you have to want to install .92?

I'd rather not spend time debugging if .91 works fine and there are no "gee whiz" features, so thanks for that feedback!Polygonhell wrote:I use my own branch of the firmware rather than the SeeMe one and my general rule on firmware, is if it works don't touch it unless there is some major feature you want access to. Re: Repetier 0.92 worth it?
I have a .91 with config tool setup for my printer. Its setup for 2 extruders (slowly getting to 4 with the kraken) and an X3 Pro + Viki, but it shouldn't be too hard to change the setup. I have also set up an old Rapman 3.1 with a RAMBo and Discount Smart Controller, so I can try to help in any way possible if anyone wants to create a fresh .91 or .92 config for themselves. I can provide screenshots of correct settings and post my config files if needed.

I'm running 0.92 from the work092 branch. It adds a few features such as better heater decoupling detection and mixing extruder support. The decoupling test is a great idea for safety, to shut things down if something goes awry with a thermistor. I am playing with the mixing extruder stuff, seems like this is going to be the next big thing; see the E3D Cyclops for example. It has this idea of virtual extruders where the mixing ratio can be preprogrammed, so existing slicer software will work.
