Aluminum foil is used to increase the diameter of the resistor to give it a snug fit into the hot end. The aluminum foil must be in contact with the interior holes in the hot end in order to transfer the heat the resistors generate to the hot end. If they can't transfer heat, the resistors will eventually burn out from the heat.

RTV is both a sealant and an insulator. The RTV keeps the thermistor from shorting out and the tiny amount between the thermistor and the hot end will not prevent it from doing its job.

I had a little trouble getting tension on the belts so I did this.

Getting some u-bolts from the hardware store, I used just the socket end only [shown on the right] with my fingers to adjust the tension so it isn't super tight.

Kinda clunky, but it helps me out. Trying the screwdriver across the bearing assembly to take up the slack in the belt was too difficult for me. This works great and I can easily snug it up. I loosen the bearing bolts, snug up the u-bolts, and then tighten the bearing bolts. This is my loosest belt so I will need to shorten it at the cheapskate.

FYI...for the bearing bolts, Barnett and I went out and bought larger diameter washers. The tiny washers included in the kit were bitting into the wood too much and causing some minor damage.....just a suggestion.
