Hello from Seattle!

Post by dustins »

Hi folks, Dustin here from Seattle (Everett actually, right by Boeing)

Bought a Rostock Max V2 kit last week, received it on Friday, assembled it on Saturday/Sunday printed my first part Sunday night!

Hat's off to the Guy's at SeeMe CNC, overall the build went great! I was a bit apprehensive going in, but was successful and I learned a lot!

One question for the group...Can anyone tell me how it's possible that the "Build Time" is NOT double, when you run 2 parts vs just one?

Example: (In Repetier Host)
Load Model "Model#1.stl"
Slice it
and it says:
Estimated Printing time 1 Hour 55 Minutes

THEN

Copy the part so that there are 2 instances (of the same identical part)
Slice it
and it says:
Estimated Printing time 2 Hours 15 Minutes

Only 209 minutes more to print double the volume?

I would expect the print time to be nearly double if you are printing twice as much volume...
Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks, Dustin

Repetiers print estimates are usually at least 2x off IME, so I wouldn't believe anything it tells you.
However particularly parts with smaller surface areas, the minimum layer time becomes dominant, and the print head doesn't have to slow down as much for 2 of the part vs one.

Yeah, never trust those time estimates, not even a little bit! Also hurray for another Seattle Max owner! Even if you are in Everett, technically. :D
