Hello from Detroit

Post by darvon »

Hello from Detroit.

My son and I met you at Detroit Maker Faire on Saturday.

Thank you for your time.

I have a suggestion and I am going to post it here. Your system has a lot of configurability in ordering, and I understand that for a sophisticated audience you need this. However at the Faire, you simply made a recommendation about the config to order.

How about if you repeat that in a Getting Started in 3dPrinting FAQ on the home page? Just simply the configuration you would recommend in all the ordering jargon required to order it. Maybe even simple one button to push to order it.

It would provide a service for people just getting started. Don't worry that it wouldn't be optimal in all cases. Newbies aren't optimal for quite a bit. However making it easy to be successful helps the hobby along.

Thank you again.

Hey darvon!

I too talked at length with them about the web site. It's great in that there are so many options, and the info is there if you read it (again and again and again).

After reading, and then talking to them, I ended up ordering the H1-1 full kit, with RAMPS and the heated bed.

I will say, to their credit, their order screen--while complex--is much more clear than trying to decipher the information from we reprap wiki's and and forums...you can spend days there reading to try and understand what exactly you need--then I imagine even more time figuring out the build.

Have you ordered a kit yet?

No I haven't ordered a system yet. The person who wants it is my eldest in college, although he might want me to build it up for him.

If I do, I will try to keep a journal of my newbie build cycle. Maybe that can be a primer for others to avoid my mistakes.

I also think we will be ordering the H1 with Ramps and heated bed. This is what was suggested to me at Faire. The web site here isn't very complicated, but it LOOKS complicated on the surface.

Maybe a primer from a newbie, with a parts/tools list would fix that.
