extruder jumping too far causing layers to be off

Post by ndrake »

This is what my prints look like lately. The layers dont seem to be applied constantly one over another.

I'd start by printing a simple cylinder to see exactly what is going on.
having said that, you should check the belts, look for wear on the inside of the belt about a third of the way up on the inside.
Make sure one of the stepper pulleys isn't loose.
Basically do a once over check on the mechanicals, most issues with misalignment are mechanical in origin.

I was getting shifts like that when I first upgraded from the 0.80 to the 0.83 firmware. Turns out the motor currents were too low (195 on .80 but only 175 on .83). You could try bumping those up in configuration.h.

I have tried to find the 0.83 firmware, could you point me in the direction of the file? The one on the Wiki doesn't seem to be 0.83
